A hydraulic cylinder is, put simply, necessary for linear motion. Made up of a cylinder barrel, a bottom (also called a cap), a head (also called a gland), and a piston rod, the cylinder gets its power from pres-surised hydraulic fluid - usually oil. The cylinder is matched by a hydraulic pump, which delivers a fixed flow of fluid to the cylinder. This flow moves the piston. Through this process, the hydraulic cylinder is able to create linear motion, making it essential in a wide range of applications, including construction equipment and civil engineering.
